La Tour-en-Jarez is a French commune with 1,479 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne and is part of the canton of Sorbiers (until 2015: canton of Saint-Héand ). The inhabitants are called Tourangeois .

La Tour-en-Jarez is located about five kilometers north of the city center of Saint-Étienne on the Furan River . La Tour-en-Jarez is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Héand in the north, Sorbiers in the east and northeast, La Talaudière in the east, Saint-Étienne in the south, Saint-Priest-en-Jarez in the southwest and L'Étrat in the west.

The former route nationale 498 (D1498) runs through the municipality .
