Châteauneuf is located about 20 kilometers east-northeast of Saint-Étienne and about 19 kilometers west of Vienne . The greed limits the community in the northeast. Châteauneuf is surrounded by the neighboring communities Rive-de-Gier in the north and west, Saint-Joseph and Chabanière with Saint-Maurice-sur-Dargoire in the north, Tartaras in the northeast, Longes in the east, Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez in the south as well Farnay in the southwest.
