Château de Virieu

Pélussin is a commune with 3765 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs administratively to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne and is the capital of the canton of Le Pilat . Pélussin is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pilat Rhodanien .

The municipality is located near the Mont Pilat mountain range , around 20 kilometers east of Saint-Étienne and 40 kilometers southwest of Lyon . Neighboring communities are:

The municipal area is drained by the Valencize river and its tributary Régrillon to the Rhône . The place is away from national transport connections in the Pilat Regional Nature Park . The park administration with the Maison du Parc is also located here .
