La Valla-en-Gier is a French commune with 1,042 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Loire department in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in Canton Le Pilat (2015: District of Saint-Chamond-Sud ) and part of the Local authority association Saint-Étienne Métropole . The municipality is part of the Pilat Regional Nature Park .

La Valla-en-Gier is located about ten kilometers east-southeast of Saint-Étienne on the river Gier . La Valla-en-Gier is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Chamond in the north, Doizieux in the east, Colombier in the southeast, Graix and Le Bessat in the south and Saint-Étienne in the west.
