The Ondaine ( called Odenon in the upper reaches ) is a river in France that runs in the Loire department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises on the municipal boundary of Planfoy and Saint-Genest-Malifaux , in the Pilat Regional Nature Park , generally drains west to northwest through the urban center west of Saint-Étienne and, after 19 kilometers, flows into the backwater of the Barrage de Grangent on the right in the municipality of Unieux Tributary to the Loire .
