The continuous decline in the number of inhabitants since the beginning of the 20th century is essentially due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs. Because of the proximity to the city of Vienne , the population has increased again slightly since the 1980s.
economy
Traditionally, the population lived from agriculture, which also included viticulture, and a little cattle breeding. Today many work in the smaller companies on the banks of the Rhône; others go to work in Vienne or Annonay. The wine produced in the municipality is marketed under the appellations Ardèche , Comtés Rhodaniens , Côtes du Rhône etc. Tourism in the form of renting holiday homes ( gîtes ) also plays an important role in the local economy.
history
The Rhône Valley was already an important traffic and trade route in ancient times. Limony was also shaped by Roman or Gallo-Roman culture ; A floor mosaic was found near the cemetery, which indicates a Roman country estate ( villa rustica ). Several other mosaic remains and coin finds complete the picture.
