Lamastre , Occitan La Mastra , is a French municipality with 2318 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Ardèche in the Region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Tournon-sur-Rhône .
geography
Lamastre is located in the eastern foothills of the Massif Central , in the Doux valley and on its slopes. The community is 2545 hectares , the lowest point is 342 meters, the highest is 833 meters.
history
Lamastre was created in 1790 by merging the municipalities of Macheville, La Mastre and Retourtour.

The place has a train station on the Tournon – Le Cheylard line , which has been closed and dismantled in the section from Lamastre to Le Cheylard . Coming from Tournon, the Train de l'Ardèche museum train uses the tracks.
Lamastre is off the main axes that run through the Rhone valley, about 30 kilometers away . The nearest railway station is located in Valence , there and in Tain-l'Hermitage there are connection points of the motorway A7 . In about 40 minutes by car of the TGV -Bahnhof Gare de Valence-Rhône-Alpes-Sud TGV reached.
Main artery is the secondary road D533 from Valence to Saint-Agrève . The D524 comes from Tournon, the D236 leads in the direction of Annonay , the D578 to Le Cheylard.

The place is considered the gateway to the Regional Natural Park of Monts d'Ardèche ( Parc naturel régional des Monts d'Ardèche ).
One and a half kilometers from the town center is the three-star campsite Camping de Retortour .
