The Kyōto-shiritsu Geijutsu Daigaku ( Japanese 京都 市立 芸 術 大学 , German "Kyōto City Art College"; Eng. Kyoto City University of Arts ) is an art college founded in Kyoto in 1880 . It has the oldest history of any art school in Japan. The president is Tamame Akamatsu.

The college was founded in 1880 as Kyōto-fu Gagakkō ( 京都 府 画 学校 , dt. " School of Painting of the Kyōto Prefecture ", English Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting ) with a temporary seat in the gardens of the Imperial Palace of Kyoto . After the sponsorship passed to the city in 1889, it renamed itself Kyōto-shi Gagakkō ( 京 都市 画 学校 , German "Kyōto City School of Painting ", English Kyoto Municipal School of Painting ). In 1891 she named herself in Kyōto-shi Bijutsu Gakkō ( 京 都市 美術 学校 , dt. "Art School of the City of Kyoto", Eng. Kyoto Municipal School of Arts ), in 1894 in Kyōto-shi Bijutsu Kōgei Gakkō ( 京 都市 美術 工 芸 学校 , dt . " Arts and Crafts School of the City of Kyoto", English Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts ) and in 1901 in Kyōto-shiritsu Bijutsu Gakkō ( 京都 市立 美術 学校 , dt. "Municipal Arts and Crafts School Kyōto", Eng. Kyoto City School of Arts ).

In 1909 it was under the control of the Ministry of Education and was renamed Kyōto-shiritsu Kaiga Semmon Gakkō ( 京都 市立 絵 画 専 門 学校 , German "Kyōto Municipal Painting School ", English Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting ). In 1926 the school moved to Hiyoshi-chō, Imakumano, Higashiyama- ku .

In 1945, the re-establishment as Kyōto-shiritsu Bijutsu Semmon Gakkō ( 京都 市立 美術 専 門 学校 , German "Kyōto City Art School", English Kyoto City Specialist School of Arts ) followed. In 1950 she was raised to the status of a college and was renamed Kyōto-shiritsu Bijutsu Daigaku ( 京都 市立 美術 大学 , German "Kyōto City College of Arts ", English Kyoto City College of Arts ). In 1952, the short-Academy of Music Kyoto-Shiritsu Ongaku junior college ( 京都市立音楽短期大学 , dt. "Urban Short School of Music" English. Kyoto City Junior College of Music ) in Tatemoto-chō, Izumoji, Kita-ku, founded in 1956 moved to Entomi-chō, Shōgoin, Sakyō-ku. In 1969 she renamed herself Kyōto-shiritsu Geijutsu Daigaku ( 京都 市立 芸 術 大学 , German "Kyōto City Art Academy", English Kyoto City University of Arts ) and set up the faculty for music. In 1980 she moved to Kutsukake-chō, Ōe, Nishikyō-ku. In the same year the Bijitsu Kenkyūka ( 美術 研究 科 , English Graduate School of Art ) and 1986 the Ongaku Kenkyūka ( 音 楽 研究 科 , English Graduate School of Music ) was founded.
