Yoshi Wada

Yoshi Wada ( Japanese ワ ダ ヨ シ , Wada Yoshi ; * 1943 in Kyōto , Japan as Wada Yoshimasa ( 和田 義 正 )) is an artist and musician for sound installations who lives in the USA. First he worked in New York for several years . He currently lives in San Francisco .

After graduating from Kyōto-shiritsu Geijutsu Daigaku ("Kyōto Municipal Art School") in 1967 , Wada joined the Fluxus movement in 1968 after meeting George Maciunas . He also studied with the north Indian singer Pandit Pran Nath . Wada's work often uses drone whistles. The overtones come out clearly at high volume.

He often performs his own compositions with bagpipes and voice with plenty of room for improvisation . He also uses self-made instruments, e.g. B. Horns and long reed wind instruments. Wada named two of these instruments: "Alligator" and "the Elephantine Crocodile". His music is only available on a few recordings, e.g. B. FMP. Lament For The Rise and Fall of Elephantine Crocodile, The Appointed Cloud and Off the Wall were re-released by Japanese labels in 2008.

Wada is also known for its mechanical and robotic installations.
