Ryōko Aoki ( Japanese 青木 陵 子 , Aoki Ryōko ; * 1973 in Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese artist who works primarily with drawings and animation . Her work was shown at the documenta .

Life

Ryōko Aoki studied graphic design at the Kyōto City Art School . She completed her studies in 1999 with an MA . In her drawings and paintings, Aoki varies plant and animal motifs in what appears to be a typical Japanese style. She uses techniques such as charcoal drawing, felt-tip pens and watercolor painting and alienates her work with the means of choosing perspective and color.

Aoki has worked and exhibited with Zon Itō ( 伊藤 ausgestellt ) for several years , resulting in the installation Children of Veins , which uses the traditional technical means of stop motion and based on the kawaii look to create a “world with sinister undertones ”. Ryoko Aoki's work was presented in Artforum and Flash Art . In 2003–2004 the Museum of Modern Art acquired eight drawings for its own collection. Aoki lives and works in Kyoto .
