economy
Traditionally, the population lived from farming and a little cattle breeding. Today forestry and tourism play the most important roles in the economic life of the place in the form of the rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ).
history
In ancient times the western Rhône valley and the Monts d'Ardèche belonged to the settlement area of the Celtic tribe of the Helvier . The medieval town was probably only created after the establishment of a priory by the Sainte-Chaffre Abbey in the 11th century. In the second half of the 16th century, the place and its surroundings were affected by the turmoil of the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598).
