While silk production was primarily responsible for the population growth in the 19th century, the continuous decline in the number of inhabitants since the beginning of the 20th century is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs. In addition, the mountain regions have depopulated almost everywhere in France in favor of the valleys.
economy
Traditionally the population lived from cattle breeding (milk, cheese) and a little agriculture. There were also water mills that powered some silk mills in the 19th century. Since the 1970s, tourism has played an important role in the economic life of the municipality in the form of holiday homes ( gîtes ).
history
Although the area was probably already roamed by prehistoric hunters and gatherers , the various hamlets and farmsteads seem to have emerged only in the Middle Ages. A bridge over the Dorne is mentioned in 1348.
