Saint-Symphorien-de-Mahun belongs to the Arrondissement of Tournon-sur-Rhône and the canton of Haut-Vivarais (until 2015: canton of Satillieu ). The inhabitants are called Sanfourios .

Saint-Symphorien-de-Mahun is about eleven kilometers southwest of Annonay . Saint-Symphorien-de-Mahun is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vocance in the north, Satillieu in the south and east, Lalouvesc in the south and south-west, Saint-Pierre-sur-Doux in the south-west and Saint-Julien-Vocance in the west.
