Monestier is a place and a municipality in the south of France with 61 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardèche department in the historic cultural landscape of Vivarais .

location

Monestier is located in the mountainous and wooded landscape of the southeastern edge of the Massif Central, almost 17 kilometers (driving distance) southwest of Annonay and about 75 kilometers northeast of Le Puy-en-Velay at an altitude of about 820 m above sea level. d. In ancient times the area belonged to the settlement area of ​​the Celtic tribe of the Helvier . The medieval town and its castle were probably not built until the 13th century, although the place name also suggests the existence of a monastery or priory. In the second half of the 16th century, the place and its castle were affected by the turmoil of the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598).

Attractions
