geography

The municipality of Albon extends between the Boutières massif , part of the Cevennes and the Eyrieux valley . It is part of the Monts d'Ardèche Regional Nature Park . Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Pierreville and Marcols-les-Eaux . The next largest city is Aubenas, 23 kilometers to the southwest. The municipality is crossed by the Glueyre and Veyruègne rivers. The chestnut forests form a defining element of the landscape in and around Albon-d'Ardèche.

history

In the 11th century there is a documentary mention when the Lords of Roche transferred ownership of the church of Saint-Julien as well as several areas and vineyards in the valley and in particular near Albon to the Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu . The history of Albon is closely linked to that of Protestantism in France. The executions that were carried out there after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes are remembered everywhere. The Serre der Palle church was built at that time near the hamlet of Serrepuy.

After splitting off from the neighboring municipality of Marcols-Les-Eaux, Albon became an independent municipality on March 20, 1912.
