Ineko Arima ( Japanese 有 馬 稲 子 Arima Ineko ; born April 3, 1932 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese actress who became known through her collaboration with director Ozu Yasujirō .

Life

Ineko Arima had her first stage appearance in 1949 and made her film debut in 1951 in a leading role in Takarazuka fujin .

Arima gained fame primarily through her multiple collaborations with the influential director Ozu Yasujirō, including 1957 in a leading role alongside Setsuko Hara in Tokyo at Dusk , 1958 as Setsuko Hirayama in Summer Blossoms and 1959 in Good Morning . Other directors Arima worked with throughout her career included Mikio Naruse , Masaki Kobayashi and Imai Tadashi . Her best-known role apart from the films by Ozu Yasujirō played Arima in 1959 as Shunran Yô in the first part of the monumental film trilogy Barefoot Through Hell . She played other notable roles in 1962 in the drama A Meaningful Life and in 1963 in the period film Bushido - You love and you kill .

Together with Keiko Kishi and Yoshiko Kuga , Arima founded the Bungei Production Ninjin Club in 1954 to promote better acting quality in Japanese film . Her most famous production is Masaki Kobayashi's horror - episode film Kwaidan from the year 1964. The departure of Kishi and financial losses led in 1966 to the collapse of the company.

Ineko Arima is still active as an actress and has appeared increasingly in television films and series since 1974. Her entire oeuvre includes more than fifty roles in film and television productions. She has received several awards for her acting achievements.
