The Order of the Noble Crown ( Japanese 宝 冠 章 , Hōkan-shō ) was launched on January 4, 1888 and is a government-awarded Japanese order .

history

Originally there were only five award levels until April 13, 1896, then grew to 8 levels, with the last two being abolished in 2003. The order is only awarded to women and until 2003 was considered an alternative award for the Order of the Rising Sun , which until then could only be given to men. Since then, the Order of the Noble Crown has been awarded to women from abroad. The award at the highest level is generally only intended for female members of the royal family.
