Vera Lúcia Barrouin Crivano Machado (born July 14, 1946 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Vera Lúcia Barrouin Crivano Machado is the daughter of Maria Lessa Barrouin Mello and Clovis Barrouin Mello. She was promoted to third class on October 24, 1968, second class on August 22, 1972, and first class on December 23, 1985. On June 22, 1983, she became counselor, on December 19, 1990, second class envoy, and on December 30, 1998, first class envoy. In 1968 she joined the foreign service. From 1970 to 1971 she was employed in the International Atomic Energy Agency . In 1974 she was the second-class legation secretary in Mexico City. In 1976 she was first class diplomatic secretary in Madrid. In 1979 she was accepted into the Orden de Isabel la Católica with a ribbon . In 1980 she was an assistant in the trade policy department. In 1981 she headed the Brazilian delegation to the Conference on Trade between Developing Countries in Ljubljana , and a delegation to Manila . In 1982 she took part in a conference on the North-South dialogue of the Escola de Administração Fazendária in Brasilila. In 1983 she was appointed head of the Oceania Division. In 1984 she was awarded the Ordem do Mérito Naval . In 1986 she was appointed head of the Department of Energy and Natural Resources, led the Brazilian delegation to the Conference of Tin Producing Countries in Jakarta, and was promoted to envoy at the Embassy in Washington, DC .

In 1987 she headed the Brazilian delegation to a conference on nuclear energy in Rio de Janeiro . In 1990 she became the commander of the Orden Mayo al Mérito and led the Brazilian delegation at a meeting on the Montreal Protocol . In 1991 she was Consul General in Miami . In 1995 she headed the public relations department and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1996 she was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and a butterfly of the Order of the Noble Crown , was appointed head of the Asia and Oceania Department and gave lectures on the Curso de Altos Estudos at the Instituto Rio Branco on the People's Republic of China, economic Reforms and Relations with Brazil . In 1997 she headed a delegation on Brazilian Korean politics. In 1999 she was ambassador to New Delhi . From 2000 to 2003 she was ambassador to Colombo and was accredited to the governments of Kathmandu and Malé . In 2001 she headed the Brazilian delegation to the Montreal Protocol in Colombo. In 2002 she was admitted to the Medalha do Pacificador with a Grand Cross , led the Brazilian delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference in New Delhi from October 23 to November 1, 2002 and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Rio Branco Order ( Ordem de Rio Branco ).

From 2004 to 2008 she was ambassador to the Holy See and at the same time accredited to the Order of Malta . In 2007 she was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Pius . Since July 12, 2012 she has been ambassador to the European Union in Brussels .
