Alexandre Mauvernay

Alexandre Mauvernay (born May 9, 1810 in Montromant in the Rhône department , † June 22, 1898 in Saint-Galmier ) was a French glass painter who mainly produced church windows.

Life

Alexandre Mauvernay was a student of Ingres in Paris. He set up his stained glass workshop in Saint-Galmier in 1839 .

In the manufacture of leaded glass windows for churches and private buildings, he worked with artists such as B. Raymond Balze , who made cardboard boxes for his windows.

His workshop had up to 30 employees and worked mainly in the departments of Loire , Rhône and Hérault .

After the death of Alexandre Mauvernay in 1898, his son Barthélémy continued the company until 1909. After that, his daughters took over the company, which was closed in 1917.

Honors

In Saint-Galmier, a street is named after Alexandre Mauvernay.
