Vieussan ( Occitan : Viuça ) is a French commune with 266 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . The inhabitants are known as Vieussanois . The municipality is part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park .

geography

The municipality is located in the Montagne Noire landscape , the southernmost foothill of the French massif central , which is already characterized by the Mediterranean climate . The eponymous village is located on a southern slope in the valley of the Orb , in which the main traffic connection of the municipality is with the road Route Départementale D14 from ( Béziers -) Roquebrun to Mons (Hérault) . The rest of the area is unpopulated due to the topographically difficult terrain, with the exception of individual hamlets and, apart from a road to the municipality of Berlou , hardly accessible in terms of transport.
