Portiragnes is a commune in the Hérault department in the region of Occitan in southern France . It has 3134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), who are called "Portiragnais" .
The center of the village is the 12th century Saint-Felix church made of black volcanic stone, which has been classified as a Monument historique since 1932 . The tower of the Béziers-Agde-Vias airport is on the outskirts .

Portiragnes also includes the seaside district of Portiragnes-Plage. The beaches (swimming, tanning in summer, walking in winter) attract a very large number of tourists. For this purpose, numerous holiday homes were built here in the second half of the 20th century.
The urban area of Portiragnes is crossed by the Canal du Midi , which has two locks here. The channel is a 1996 UNESCO - World Heritage Site .
