Castanet-le-Haut is a municipality in the south of France with 206 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region .

Castanet-le-Haut is located on the edge of the Hérault department in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park in the mountains of the Monts de l'Espinouse directly on the Tarn and Aveyron departments , 73 kilometers east of Montpellier and 41 kilometers northwest of Béziers , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the eponymous arrondissements . Neighboring municipalities of Castanet-le-Haut are Arnac-sur-Dourdou in the north, Saint-Geniès-de-Varensal in the east, Rosis in the south-east and Cambon-et-Salvergues in the south-west. The 50 percent wooded area of the municipality covers 2755 hectares, the mean height is 757 meters above sea level , the Mairie stands at an altitude of 452 meters.
