Rieussec ( Occitan : Riu-sec ) is a French commune with 66 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . Rieussec belongs to the arrondissement of Béziers and the canton of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières . The inhabitants are called Rieussecois .

geography

Rieussec is located in the southernmost foothills of the Massif Central , between the Jaur valley and the lowlands sloping to the Mediterranean , north of Narbonne , in the valley of the Vernazobre river . The municipality is part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park . Rieussec is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières in the north, Saint-Jean-de-Minervois in the east, Vélieux in the south and south-east, Boisset in the west and south-west and Verreries-de-Moussans in the north-west.
