Assignan ( Occitan : Assinhan ) is a French commune with 162 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitania region (before 2016: Languedoc-Roussillon ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Béziers and the canton of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières (until 2015: canton of Saint-Chinian ). The inhabitants are called Assignanais .

geography

Assignan is located about 26 kilometers west-northwest of Béziers in the southern foothills of the Cevennes . Assignan is surrounded by the neighboring communities Babeau-Bouldoux in the north, Saint-Chinian in the east, Villespassans in the south and south-east, Bize-Minervois in the south-west, Saint-Jean-de-Minervois in the west and Pardailhan in the north-west.
