Le Poujol-sur-Orb is a French commune with 1,083 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Béziers and the canton of Clermont-l'Hérault . Until 1921 the place was only called Le Poujol.

Le Poujol-sur-Orb is located in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park at an altitude of between 162 and 380 m above sea level at the foot of Mont Caroux in the Orb valley . The municipality covers 4.58 km² (458 ha) and the population density is 228 people per km².

traffic

Le Poujol-sur-Orb is accessed by the D908 department road and a railway line. Small side streets lead from here to Le Vernet and Combes . To the south of the village there is another campsite above the river.

Population development

The largest population reached Le Poujol-sur-Orb in the early 19th century with over 1300 inhabitants. In 2005, for the first time after 1936, a population of over 1,000 was again reached.
