Quarante ( Occitan : Cranta ) is a French commune with 1,767 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Béziers and the canton of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières (until 2015: canton of Capestang ). The inhabitants are called quarantais .

geography

Quarante is about twenty kilometers west of Béziers . Quarante is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cébazan in the north, Creissan in the north and northeast, Puisserguier in the east, Capestang in the southeast, Ouveillan in the south and Cruzy in the west.

The community belongs to the Saint-Chinian wine region .
