Magalas ( Occitan : Magalaç ) is a southern French municipality with 3,349 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitania region . The inhabitants are called Magalassia .

geography

Magalas is about twelve kilometers north of Béziers on the Libron River . Magalas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Laurens in the north, Fouzilhon in the north-east, Pouzolles in the east, Puissalicon in the south and south-east, Puimisson in the south and south-west, Saint-Geniès-de-Fontedit in the west and Autignac .

Somewhat east of the town center are the remains of the Celtic oppidum of Magalas .
