Lock gates of the Libron

The Libron is a coastal river in France that runs in the Hérault department in the Occitania region . It rises under the name Sauvanés in the municipality of Roquessels , generally drains in a south-easterly direction and flows into the Mediterranean after 44 kilometers in the local area of Vias .

Hydrology

In his opening section southwest of Vias the Libron crosses the shipping canal Canal du Midi at almost the same level. Due to its extreme water flow in bad weather, it represented a great risk for shipping and therefore had to be defused by impressive engineering structures.
