Puisserguier ( Occitan : Puèrserguièr ) is a French commune with 2,912 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Béziers and the canton of Saint-Pons-de-Thomières . The inhabitants are called Puisserguiérains .
geography
Puisserguier is located about 15 kilometers west-northwest of Béziers in a vineyard and heathland. Puisserguier is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cazedarnes in the north, Cazouls-lès-Béziers in the east, Maureilhan in the southeast, Capestang in the south, Quarante in the southwest, Creissan in the west and northwest.
The village belongs to the Saint-Chinian wine region . The former route nationale 112 (today's D612) runs through the municipality .
history
A necropolis from the Iron Age (approx. 800 BC) was discovered during the construction of Route nationale 112. 1146 the place is mentioned as Castrum Podio Serigorio .
