The mountain range of the Monts de l'Espinouse (also: Montagne de l'Espinouse ) and the associated massif Le Caroux are the southernmost foothills of the massif Central in France with the Montagne Noire . Geologically, the mountain range belongs to the Montagne Noire.

The mountain range is located in the Hérault department . The ridge forms the watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. The highest peak is the Sommet de l'Espinouse with a height of 1124  m . The gorge of Héric ( Gorges d'Héric ) , which is up to 900 m below the summit, offers a very open insight into the geological structure of the Monts de l'Espinouse .
