The Trobairitz Azalaïs de Porcairagues (from Bibliothèque Nationale MS12473, 13th century)

Azalaïs de Porcairagues was a Trobairitz of the late 12th century . Little is known about her life. According to her vida , she came from Montpellier ; however, according to recent research, it could also come from Portiragnes . Azalaïs de Porcairagues is considered the earliest Trobairitz known by name.

Although only one song and one vida have survived, in their time it seems to have been compared to Trobairitz such as Beatriz de Dia or Castelloza .

The trobador Raimbaut d'Aurenga , with whom she was in correspondence, was the object of desire in her songs. Raimbaut d'Aurenga referred to them in his works with the senhal (pseudonym) "Joglar" ( minstrel ).
