Origin and meaning
The name Supersaxo is the Latinization of a German- Swiss residence name . It is made up of the Latin words super (Latin: spatial: 'on', 'above' and Latin: spatial, poetic, postcl., Oj: 'from above') and saxum (Latin: 'rock [block] ') ', also' Fluh '). The origin is the Manegoldi family , who called themselves "de Saxo" in Latin after the castle uf der Flüe in Naters , they are also mentioned in German as the "Herren ab der Flue". The family was the owner of the episcopal office . The castle passed to the Kastlan von Naters in 1352 , and was also the residence of the Bishop of Sitten in the 15th and 16th centuries and gave its name to the castle .
Michel Supersaxo
The Michel von Naters family branched out to the Brigerberg , among others, and named themselves after their residence Uff der Fluo (lat. Supersaxo ) also Michel-Supersaxo, but they are not related to the Supersaxo von Ernen und Sitten family. The Supersaxo House in Naters was built in 1597 by order of the Valais Governor Georg I.
