The community of Droyßiger-Zeitzer Forst in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt was formed on January 1, 2010. The forerunner of the Verbandsgemeinde was the administrative community Droyßiger-Zeitzer Forest . Since member communities of association communities in Saxony-Anhalt must have at least 1,000 inhabitants and their number is limited to eight, the following changes took place on the same day:
- Merger of the municipalities Bergisdorf (419 inhabitants), Droßdorf (694 inhabitants), Heuckewalde (434 inhabitants) and Schellbach (492 inhabitants) to form the new municipality of Gutenborn (2,039 inhabitants)
- Merger of the municipalities of Bröckau (378 inhabitants) and Wittgendorf (664 inhabitants) to form the new municipality of Schnaudertal (1,042 inhabitants)
- Merger of the municipalities of Breitenbach (305 inhabitants), Haynsburg (539 inhabitants) and Wetterzeube (1,101 inhabitants) to form the new municipality of Wetterzeube (1,945 inhabitants)
- Amalgamation of the municipalities of Droyßig (1,774 inhabitants) and Weißenborn (363 inhabitants) to form the new municipality of Droy says (2,137 inhabitants)
- Merger of the municipalities of Döschwitz (824 inhabitants), Grana (741 inhabitants) and Kretzschau (1,276 inhabitants) to form the new municipality of Kretzschau (2,841 inhabitants)

In 2016, the mayor of the association was also newly elected. Incumbent Manuela Hartung did not run again for this election. In the runoff election on September 18, 2016, Uwe Kraneis, who was not part of the party, won 64.7% of the valid votes against the CDU candidate Arnd Czapek .

The coat of arms of the Verbandsgemeinde was published on March 31, 2018 and designed by the heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
Blazon : "In silver, a blue bunch of grapes with two green leaves and a stem as well as black tendrils between two green conifers with a black trunk growing out of the outside of a green three-mountain and disappearing into the edge of the shield; the three-mountain is covered with a silver-contoured blue wavy bar."
The colors of the association are green and white.

Federal roads 2 and 180 run through the association . In addition, the Haynsburg and Wetterzeube train stations are on the Leipzig-Gera-Saalfeld railway line in the municipality area.
