The Döllnitzbahn GmbH (DBG) is a railway infrastructure company and a railway company based in Mügeln , Saxony . The company operates the narrow-gauge branch lines Oschatz – Mügeln , Mügeln – Glossen and Nebitzschen – Kemmlitz .

history

In December 17, 1993, the newly founded Döllnitzbahn GmbH took over the route between Oschatz, Mügeln and Kemmlitz that was left over from the Mügeln network. The main objective of the company was initially to maintain the still existing freight traffic from the kaolin quarry in Kemmlitz . For this purpose, used narrow-gauge freight wagons were procured from the Mansfeld mining railway, and a new transhipment facility to standard gauge was built in Oschatz. With used diesel locomotives of the type FAUR L30H it was possible to maintain the freight traffic for the time being. Nevertheless, the transports gradually decreased, so that the freight traffic had to be stopped in 2001. This made the Döllnitzbahn the last narrow-gauge railway with public goods traffic in Saxony.

Today only school trains and steam-hauled special trains run on the Döllnitzbahn route. The Döllnitzbahn GmbH is a partner of the Steam Railway Route Saxony . At the end of 2010 she was awarded the Claus Köpcke Prize for the realignment and consolidation of the company . In the meantime, the continued existence was at risk, as in February 2011 the association for the local traffic area Leipzig (ZVNL) decided to stop the financing of rail traffic at the end of the school year on July 8, 2011 in view of the reduced allocation of funds by the Free State of Saxony.

On June 15, 2011, however, a spokesman for the Saxon Ministry of Transport (SMWA) announced that the financing of rail operations until the end of 2012 has been secured. For permanent backup operation, the shareholders' meeting of Döllnitzbahn took the decision to the management by the November 16, 2012 service contract to the Saxon Oberlausitz Railway Company to transfer, whose Managing Director Ingo Neidhardt it acquired in personal union from the beginning of 2013 (SOEG). At the end of December 2012, a transport contract was signed between Döllnitzbahn GmbH and the Döllnitzbahn Zweckverband, which secures funding for 2013 and 2014, with half of the funds coming from the Saxon Ministry of Transport. These funds are already foreseen for the years 2015 to 2020 in the Public Transport Financing Ordinance of the Free State of Saxony passed on December 18, 2012. On December 18, 2014, Döllnitzbahn and ZVNL signed a new transport contract that provides for 23,000 train kilometers annually until 2020. Of this, 20,000 kilometers are earmarked for school traffic and 3000 kilometers for historic train traffic with steam locomotives.

On November 22, 2013, the Döllnitzbahn received a funding notification from the SMWA for the first section of the renovation of the infrastructure. The investment costs of the four planned sections total around 2.6 million euros, with funding from the Free State of Saxony amounting to 75 percent. After the renovation of the Nebitzschen – Altmügeln, Mügeln – Glossen and Mügeln – Naundorf sections, the Naundorf – Oschatz section remained for 2016, which was renovated from summer to autumn.

After the Nebitzschen – Kemmlitz Ort section of the route had been inoperable for more than 10 years, it was reopened on June 9, 2017 after the route was renovated by the Wilder Robert Association. On September 8, 2018, the section to Kemmlitz Bbf was put back into operation. In addition, the ZVNL extended the transport contract with the Döllnitzbahn until 2027.

future

In 2014, Döllnitzbahn GmbH stated that it was considering rebuilding the disused line from Glossen to Wermsdorf. This could be used to connect Hubertusburg Castle to the route. This would give the Döllnitzbahn a new, attractive destination for the first time, which could increase passenger numbers in the long term. But if it were reactivated, the route would end 1.7 kilometers before the castle, at the former Wermsdorf / Döllnitz reservoir . Lutz Haschke, authorized signatory of the Döllnitzbahn, sees this as a "solvable" problem. According to this, buses or horse-drawn carriages should close the gap. “And if you can, you can walk.” According to estimates, the new building would cost three to four million euros.

Friends of Wild Robert

The Friends of Wild Robert was founded in 1994 with the aim of preserving the historic facilities and vehicles of the "Wild Robert". At the beginning, the association's field of activity consisted in carrying out special trips with existing, operational vehicle material, including steam locomotives ( IV K ) 99 561, 99 574 and 99 584.

Gradually, members of the association began, with the help of ABM and local companies, with the renovation of buildings along the narrow-gauge railway. The Mügeln goods floor , the sanitary building, signal box I and the railway master’s building were renovated. In Oschatz, work continued on renovating the boiler house there in 2009. The greatest achievement of the "Wilder Robert" association was the reconstruction of the Nebitzschen – Glossen route with the help of the Sornzig-Ablaß community .

In the vehicle sector, the main inspection was carried out at IV K 99 561 (2001–2003) and 99 574 (2006–2007). Cars were also reconditioned; in 2001 the 970-277 load wagon was completed. This was followed by the GGw 97-15-02 freight car, the KKw 97-27-18 with hinged lid and the KD4 974-309 baggage car.
