Narrow-gauge small locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Deutsche Reichsbahn handled the traffic on narrow-gauge lines mainly with steam locomotives. Diesel locomotives were also used for special tasks, but only used or converted locomotives were used.

Locomotives with a gauge of 750 mm received the designation Kö 6001ff., Meter gauge locomotives Kö 6501ff. After 1970 they received the series designation 100 , which applied to all small locomotives, with serial numbers from 901ff. Due to the risk of confusion, the narrow-gauge diesel locomotives were re-designated as class 199 in 1973. From 1992 it became the 399 series , here the gauge could be read off from the serial number: locomotives with 1000 mm gauge were placed in the 399.1 sub-series, locomotives with 600 mm in 399.6 and with 750 mm in the 399.7 sub-series.

Two former three-axle army field railway locomotives of the type HF 130 C were refurbished by the DR for various 750 mm narrow-gauge lines. They were given the numbers Köf 6001 and 6003, the former was in Dahme , the latter in Nauen . After the Nauen line was dismantled, it was also brought to Dahme in 1963, and after it was shut down there in 1965, both locomotives were moved to Rügen . The Köf 6001 (from 1970: 100 901 and from 1973: 199 001) was taken out of service in 1985, the other one (from 1970: 100 902 and 1973: 199 002), most recently listed by DR as 399 703, is still today and in use again under its old number Kö 6003.

The locomotive Karl Marx Babelsberg built in the fifties diesel locomotives for work and railways, also for different (narrow) gauges were eligible ( s = narrow gauge). The first Ns 3 machines were delivered in 1952. A total of 280 locomotives of this type were built. The locomotive was driven by a mechanical three-stage gear drive with a friction clutch via a jackshaft and rods on the axles between the axles. The machines were equipped with a water-cooled four-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with a nominal output of 60 hp.

They had an outer frame, the drive was mechanical via a three-stage gear and a reversing gear . The axles are driven via a jackshaft with a coupling rod, the drive and crank pins are located outside the frame.

A type Ns 3 locomotive with a gauge of 750 mm came to Rügen, where it was first used in the chalk factory Stubben and from 1954 at the Rügener Bahnen as Kö 6005 in shunting traffic. With the cessation of freight traffic, it was shut down around 1970.

Two meter-gauge copies of this type, originally built for the Soviet Army, came to the Halle industrial railway in 1965 , where they were used to move to the sidings. They bore the numbers Kö 6501 and 6502. The first was in service from 1963 to 1965, initially in Barth, on the Franzburg routes . The technically identical locomotives differed in appearance: The second was given a 2800 mm wide driver's cab so that the view would be better when maneuvering with standard gauge wagons. Instead of a buffer, these locomotives had a long dome tree, which was sufficient for roll-head operation.

They were renumbered in 1970 to 100 903 and 904, in 1973 to 199 003 and 004. In 1983/1984 they were retired. Shortly before, they were given the numbers 199 991 and 992 to distinguish them from their successors

From 1970

The still existing small locomotives Kö 6001, 6003, 6501, 6502 were carried under the class 199.0. There were also other locomotives:

As the most powerful locomotive of the first LKM series, it has an output of 90 hp. In 1954, two prototypes of the Ns 4 were built for export to Hungary. In 1955 18 locomotives were built for Indonesia under the type designation Ns 4 a. At least one locomotive of the type Ns 4 a still exists in Indonesia. It was not until 1957 that production continued with the Ns 4 b. It was produced in 22 pieces from 1957 to 1958. Four copies have been preserved in Germany. The three types mentioned above all have an outer frame for gauges from 600 to 760 mm. In 1957 and 1959 18 Ns 4 c models were built, which were designed for gauges from 900 to 1067 mm and already had the exterior of the V 10 C. No surviving copy is known. From the outer frame series of 1958, two locomotives had the new superstructures, if not all. Whether this intermediate series is to be designated as Ns 4 b or Ns 4 c cannot be clearly determined.

The DR had at least three Ns 4 b locomotives, all of which have been preserved and whose curriculum vitae should be listed here.

199 007
The DR bought the locomotive with the serial number 250029/1957 from VEB Feinspinnerei Venusberg in 1972 and used it in Wilischthal on the VEB paper factory Wilischthal ( narrow-gauge railway Wilischthal-Thum ) until 1991 . It got the number 199 007. In 1992 it was sold to the IG Preßnitztalbahn .
199 008
In 1957 the locomotive with the serial number 250027 was delivered to the VEB Kieswerk Ottendorf-Okrilla with a track width of 600 mm. In 1962 it was re-gauged to 750 mm and came to VEB sugar factory Döbeln. In 1970 it was bought by VEB Gießerei und Maschinenbau "Ferdinand Kunert" (GISAG) Schmiedeberg and used as locomotive 2 on the connection line of the plant. In 1987 it bought the DR and used it as "199 008", among other things, to dismantle the Preßnitztalbahn and on the remaining stretch of the narrow-gauge railway Wilischthal – Thum to the Wilischthal paper mill . There she completed her last trip as part of a photo event in 1991. In 1992 she was still listed as 399 702, but was parked rusting at the Wilischthal train station. In 1993 it was sold to the Döllnitzbahn .
199 103
In 1957 the locomotive 250026 with the factory number was delivered to the VEB Schotterwerk Althüttendorf in 750 mm gauge. It was later sold to VEB Ziegelwerk Ueckermünde and tracked to 600 mm. In 1983 she bought the DR for the Berlin pioneer railway (today the Berlin Park Railway ). It was named 199 103 .

The locomotives of the type V 10 C were further developed by LKM Babelsberg from the Ns 4, the construction of which was discontinued in 1958. The first machines were delivered in 1959. The drive concept was taken over from the Ns 4, the drive was again via a jackshaft with coupling rods mounted under the driver's cab on the axles, with four gears again being available. In vehicles up to 760 mm track width, the axles had an outer frame, for larger track widths an inner frame. The machines were equipped with an air-cooled diesel engine 6 KVD 14.5 SRL from the Schönebeck diesel engine plant with an output of 102 hp.

Two meter gauge copies of this type built in 1964, initially working in an industrial company in Gotha, came to the Spreewaldbahn in 1970 . There they had the numbers 100 905 and 906, from 1973 199 005 and 006. In 1983 they came to the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways . In 1991 they were taken out of service, but were given the numbers 399 112 and 113, at least on paper. Both have since been on permanent loan from IG Harzer Schmalspurbahnen eV, the former 199 006 is waiting to be reconditioned. The former 199 005 has been on permanent loan from IG Spreewaldbahn in Straupitz since 2018 .

Two locomotives of this type in 600 mm gauge used by the Berliner Parkeisenbahn in Berlin (formerly Pioneer Railway Wuhlheide) were added to the DR vehicle fleet as 199 101 and 102.

For shunting work on meter-gauge routes, existing Kö II and Kb II locomotives were re-tracked and redrawn.

199 003 II
This locomotive was recalibrated in 1983 in the Reichsbahn repair shop in Halle. It had the number 100 128 as a standard gauge diesel locomotive and was then renumbered to 399 110 in 1992 , but was parked in the same year. This locomotive came from a series of Köf replicas from the Reichsbahn repair shop in Dessau in the years 1960–1962 (Kö 4001 to 4032).
199 004 II
It was also re-gauged in 1983 in the Reichsbahn repair shop in Halle, before it had the number 100 287 and from 1992 the locomotive number 399 111, although it was shut down in the same year.
Both locomotives were replacements for the Ns 3 of the Halle (Saale) industrial line . After the industrial line was shut down, both locomotives were parked for years on a flat wagon in the area of the Bw Halle G, and finally came to the Harz region , from where they went to the BSW Group Traditionsgemeinschaft Bw Halle P e. V. , Halle, at this time as "199 003-5" and "199 004-3". 199 003 has been located in Georgenthal at IG Hirzbergbahn e. V.
199 010
This locomotive was re-gauged in 1985 and previously had the designation Kb 4325 or 100 325 . It is now at the Harz narrow-gauge railways and is parked in Gernrode . In 1992 it was temporarily called 399 114 .
199 011
This locomotive was only re-gauged 6 years after its sister locomotive 199 010 in 1991 and was previously called Kö 4639 or 100 639 . They, too, is now in the Harz narrow gauge railways and was there until October 2015, shunting the Bws Wernigerode -Westerntor in use. In 1992 it was temporarily called 399 115 .
199 012
This locomotive was also re-tracked to meter gauge in 1991 , before it had the designation Kb 4113 or 100 213 . Like its two sister locomotives 199 010 and 199 011, it is located on the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways . It was parked in the Ilfeld locomotive shed together with the only locomotive of the DR series V 30 C until 2015 ; after being refurbished, it has since been in use again in the Wernigerode Western gate. It also had a different locomotive number at times in 1992, namely 399 116 .

Note and individual evidence

The locomotives V 30 C and V 36 K were not run as small locomotives on the Deutsche Reichsbahn.
