Abdullah Ercan (born December 8, 1971 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish football coach and former player. He is currently working as the Turkish U-21 national coach .

Active career

Abdullah Ercan started his career at Yeniçarşım, an amateur club from Istanbul. In 1990 Trabzonspor signed him . He spent most of his career at Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor sold many of their national players at that time. Abdullah stayed in Trabzon, but was denied the championship title there. Due to unsuccessfulness, Abdullah moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul in 1999 . Abdullah played his first competitive game for Fenerbahçe Istanbul on August 8, 1999 against Vanspor in the Süper Lig . The last game for the blue and yellow was on March 15, 2003 against Elazığspor . He then moved to arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul . At Galatasaray he was a substitute. After just one season, Ercan played for İstanbulspor . There he ended his career.

Abdullah Ercan celebrated his greatest success at the 2002 World Cup . He finished third with the Turkish national soccer team , behind Brazil and Germany .

Coaching career

Ercan coached the Turkish U-17 team from 2008 to 2011 . From September 30, 2011 to January 26, 2012, he worked as a trainer at Gaziantepspor .

On August 6, 2013, Ercan was introduced as the new head coach of the Turkish U-21 national team.
