The L30H series from the Romanian vehicle and machine manufacturer FAUR is a three-axle narrow - gauge diesel locomotive for gauges of 600, 750, 785 and 1000 mm. It was delivered to various Polish companies, at PKP these locomotives have the class designation Lyd2 .

history

The locomotives were manufactured from 1977 to 1982 by the locomotive factory August 23 (today FAUR ) in Romania; the type designation is L30H . A total of about 40 locomotives of this series were procured, of which only a part went directly to the PKP. About ten machines were delivered to sugar factories, eight more locomotives belonged to the state forest administration, where they were classified as LP . Some of these machines were later taken over by the PKP.

Locomotives outside Poland

Two locomotives with a gauge of 600 mm were bought by the Döllnitzbahn in 1994 . They were referred to as locomotives 33 and 34 and gaugeed to 750 mm. The locomotive 34 received the color scheme of the Westphalian Almetalbahn . The deployment took place in front of school trains between Oschatz and Mügeln. Both locomotives are currently defective, locomotive 33 was handed over to the Sächsisch-Oberlausitzer Eisenbahngesellschaft in 2009, which is already using an identical locomotive with the number 199 013 on the Zittau narrow-gauge railway .

Three locomotives for 600 mm gauge are owned by the Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) , two of which are currently operational.

Three 750 mm locomotives from the Dobre sugar factory arrived on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean in 2002 , where they are used by the St. Kitts Scenic Railway , a former sugar cane railway that has been converted into a tourist attraction. Before that, they were completely overhauled and re-tracked to 760 mm. The double-decker passenger cars with an open upper deck are unique in the world for narrow-gauge railways.

technical features

The locomotives are provided with a welded outer frame. The head pieces carry the couplings typical of the route network, usually compensating couplings. The drive takes place via a jackshaft and coupling rods with attached cranks. The diesel engine , built under license from Maybach , has a displacement of 29.6 l and an output of 257 kW (350 hp).
