Vitzenburg has been part of the city of Querfurt in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt since January 1st, 2004 .
history
In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery , which was created between 881 and 899, the tithe town of Fizinburc and the castle of the same name in Friesenfeld are mentioned for the first time. A knightly family of the same name "von Vitzenburg" is mentioned in the 11th and 12th centuries. The noble lords of Querfurt and the Thuringian taverns of Vargula later named themselves after the castle.
Vitzenburg and its current parts of the municipality of Liederstädt , Pretitz and Zingst belonged to the Wettin , later Electoral Saxon office of Freyburg until 1815 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna they came to Prussia and were 1,816 county Querfurt in the administrative district of Merseburg of Saxony Province allocated to which they belonged to the 1944th On July 1, 1950, Liederstädt was incorporated.

- The community is about 1 kilometer from the federal highway 250 , which connects the cities of Querfurt with Nebra and Eckartsberga .
- In the neighboring town of Reinsdorf , the Vitzenburg station on the Unstrutbahn was located until the reconstruction of the 2011/2012 line . After the reconstruction was completed, the station was abandoned and a new Reinsdorf stop was set up about a kilometer further east, from which the city of Naumburg can be reached by Abellio Rail Central Germany trains . In the other direction there are trains to Nebra and Wangen. The Röblingen am See – Vitzenburg railway branching off in Vitzenburg was closed in 2003.
