Ziegelroda is a district of the city of Querfurt , which is in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Ziegelroda is located on the road from Querfurt in the east to Artern in the west in the southern part of a large clearing in the Ziegelrodaer Forest , an extensive forest area on the border with Thuringia .

history

In 1140 a small parish village with a chapel and tiny turrets was founded near the Roßleben monastery . The village was built in honor of Count Ludwig I's wife Mathilde of Wippra with the name Mathilderode or Mechilrode. The countess had slaves settle there to cultivate fields and to supply the monastery with all kinds of products. The establishment of the actual village of Ziegelroda can be dated to the years 1140 to 1151.

There are many finds from the Ziegelrodaer Forest, the best known is the Nebra Sky Disc , which was found on the Mittelberg in the south.

On April 12, 1945, approaching US tanks received defensive fire from the town and the Ziegelroda forest. They then shot at the village and damaged the building. Two women and a child died. Nine German soldiers are resting in a soldiers' grave in Ziegelroda, at least two of whom were shot after they were captured.

On May 1, 1974 Landgrafroda was incorporated into the community. On January 1, 2004, Ziegelroda then lost its political independence and was incorporated into Querfurt.
