Location of Peißen in Landsberg

Peißen is a village in the town of Landsberg in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt . It consists of the districts of Peißen, Rabatz, Stichelsdorf and Zöberitz.

geography

The village of Peißen borders directly on Halle (Saale) in the southwest and is divided into the four districts of Peißen, Rabatz, Stichelsdorf and Zöberitz.

history

The districts of the village of Peißen were first used in the 12./13. Century mentioned. The oldest surviving structure in the village is the tower of the Peißen church, which probably dates from the 10th century. Due to its location in the border area of the sphere of influence of the Magdeburg bishops and the House of Wettin , it served as a defense tower for border surveillance.

The Stichelsdorf estate belonged as an exclave to the Electoral Saxon Office Petersberg until 1698 , which was formed in the course of the introduction of the Reformation in 1538/40 from the secularized property of the Petersberg Monastery .

Peißen, Rabatz and Zöberitz, however, belonged to the ore monastery of Magdeburg . While Peißen and Zöberitz were under aristocratic rule, Rabatz was administered by the Giebichenstein office. With the annexation of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg to Prussia, the three places belonged to the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg from 1680 .

With the sale of the Petersberg District to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1697, Gut Stichelsdorf was also incorporated into the Saalkreis in the Duchy of Magdeburg. With the establishment of the Francke Foundations in Glaucha near Halle (Saale) by the theologian and educator August Hermann Francke in 1698 , the 100 hectare agricultural area was left to the foundations for their pupils to self-suffice with food.

With the Peace of Tilsit , Peißen, Zöberitz, Rabatz and Stichelsdorf were incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. They belonged to the rural canton of Halle . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the four places were attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Saalkreis.

On December 31, 1928, the Stichelsdorf manor district was incorporated into the municipality of Peißen. Rabatz followed on April 1, 1938 and Zöberitz on July 1, 1950. With effect from September 1, 2010, Peißen was assigned to the city of Landsberg. Since then it has been one of eleven localities in the city of Landsberg.
