history
Delitzsch had already received a railway connection on the Leipzig – Bitterfeld – Dessau railway line through the Berlin train station, which was put into operation in 1859 (today: Delitzsch unt Bf) .
The Halle-Sorau-Gubener railway of the "railway king" Bethel Henry Strousberg opened the last section of its eponymous connection from Sorau or Guben to Halle (Saale) in 1872 with the Halle-Cottbus line . With the opening of the line, Delitzsch received today's Upper Station as a second station, known at the time as "Sorauer Bahnhof". The station building, built in the style of historicism , was built in such a way that the entrance is in the corner between the Sorauer Bahn and the line.
Until 1945, the route through Delitzsch served intensive traffic between the central German industrial area and Silesia. The express and express trains on the route were each divided or combined at Eilenburg station , so that both Halle and Leipzig were served directly. The parts of the train in / from Halle each stopped in Delitzsch. In the summer timetable of 1939, the station was served by three express train and two express train pairs, direct or through coach connections existed to Breslau and Kassel , among others .
In April 1945 the station was destroyed by Allied air raids and later rebuilt. Since Sorau was now in Poland , the Deutsche Reichsbahn changed the station name to the current name on September 15, 1951. In the years after 1994, Deutsche Bahn removed all tracks with the exception of the through tracks, and Delitzsch ob Bf has been an operational stop ever since.
After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the station building stood empty and fell into disrepair. Since 2008, the building, which was renovated from January to July 2007, has been the seat of the Theater Academy Saxony and a venue for various cultural purposes.
