Maschwitz is a district in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt belonging to the village of Oppin in the town of Landsberg .

The district is north-east of Halle (Saale) and south of Oppin . It includes the districts of Obermaschwitz and Untermaschwitz , which are less than a kilometer apart.

Maschwitz was created on April 1, 1938 through the merger of Upper and Lower Maschwitz and existed as an independent municipality in the Saalkreis . As early as July 1, 1950, Maschwitz was incorporated into Oppin and led as a district of Oppins. On January 1, 2010 Maschwitz was reclassified as part of Oppins to Landsberg.

The name Maschwitz goes back to Masovici , meaning settlement of the Mas clan. The ministerial family von Maschwitz had their saddle yard in Untermaschwitz, which was also the main town. The only church in Maschwitz, the Sankt-Nicolai-Kirche, and the syringe house are located here. The school was also located there.
