The St. Nicolai Church is the Protestant church in the village of Untermaschwitz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The church was built from rubble stones and its core dates back to the first half of the 13th century. The nave has a rectangular floor plan. A semicircular apse adjoins the east side . On the west side there is a rectangular church tower. In 1731, both the church tower and the nave were raised and the church as a whole rebuilt. In the late 19th century, the tower was given brick gables. At the same time, an extension was made on the west side of the tower.

The interior of the church is spanned by a beamed ceiling. On the west side there is a gallery from the 19th century. The equipment pieces like pulpit , crucifix , organ , stained glass windows and from sandstone made baptism come uniformly from the late 19th century.

In the churchyard north of the church is the elaborately designed family grave of the Kretzschmann family from around 1890 and a war memorial for those who died in the First World War .

In the local register of monuments , the church is registered as a monument under registration number 094 55329.

The church belongs to the parish Hohenthurm in the parish of Halle-Saale district of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

War memorial

The war memorial for the fallen of World War I in Untermaschwitz is in the churchyard. It is a stele crowned by an iron cross and decorated with a relief of a soldier's helmet in oak leaves. The decoration with five-pointed stars under the iron cross is unusual.
