The canton Oppin was an administrative unit in the Halle district of the Saale department in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia . The main town of the canton and seat of the justice of the peace was Oppin in today's Saalekreis . The canton comprised 7 municipalities and several hamlets and farms. It was inhabited by 2,726 people and had an area of 1.1 square miles . The canton emerged from part of the hall circle of the Duchy of Magdeburg . Most of the canton belonged to the Giebichenstein office before 1807 . The place Spröda was an exclave in the royal Saxon office of Delitzsch . Until 1807 he belonged to the Petersberg office , which historically belonged to the Electorate of Saxony until 1697 .
