Casey Dellacqua (born February 11, 1985 in Perth ) is a former Australian tennis player .

Life

Casey Dellacqua is of Italian on her father's side and Irish on her mother's side.

In August 2013, she announced the birth of their child Blake Benjamin through her partner Amanda three weeks earlier. In doing so, she also made her relationship with her partner public.

Career

In 2008 at the Pilot Pen tournament in which they with Nathalie Dechy took

Dellacqua moved to Canberra at the age of 16 to train at the Australian Institute of Sport . She played there at the local tennis club.

In 2006, Dallacqua entered the Australian Open for the first time with a wildcard . After her first round loss to Lindsay Davenport , she had to listen to severe criticism regarding her fitness.

At the age of 23, she became number 1 in Australian women's tennis after reaching the round of 16 of the Australian Open . She also achieved her best result so far at the French Open in 2008 when she entered the third round. In doubles she was even in the final there. So far, she has won 22 singles and 23 doubles on the ITF Women's Circuit . Since 2006 she has played for the Australian Fed Cup team ; after her 28 Fed Cup games, she won 19 times.

Dellacqua played in Hobart in 2008 for the first time a quarter-finals on the WTA Tour , which she lost to Eleni Daniilidou . In Melbourne , she defeated world number one Amélie Mauresmo in the same year and made it to the round of 16, her best individual result so far in a Grand Slam tournament . So she replaced Alicia Molik as the best-placed Australian tennis player. Her victories over former top 10 players such as Molik, Nicole Vaidišová , Patty Schnyder and Marion Bartoli are also worth mentioning .

Dellacqua 2008 at the US Open

In doubles, she was in the final of the French Open in 2008 with Francesca Schiavone , alongside Nathalie Dechy in the semifinals of Wimbledon . In 2011 she won in Roland Garros with Scott Lipsky in mixed her first title at a Grand Slam tournament, in the final they defeated the pairing Katarina Srebotnik and Nenad Zimonjić 7: 6, 4: 6 and [10: 7].

At the Olympic Games in Beijing Dellacqua competed for Australia together with Alicia Molik and Samantha Stosur . She won her first round match against Gisela Dulko 6: 3, 6: 4; then she was defeated by the number 12 seeded Vikoryia Asaranka . In doubles, she and Molik lost their first round match against Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone 4: 6 and 4: 6.

At the US Open in 2008 Dellacqua was eliminated in both singles and doubles in round one. In the singles she was defeated by the French qualifier Julie Coin 6: 7 and 6: 7, in the doubles she lost (seeded number 9) with Dechy against Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska from Poland with 6: 1, 2: 6 and 3: 6 . She played the mixed alongside her compatriot Jordan Kerr , with whom she was eliminated in the second round against Jonas Björkman and Nadja Petrowa .

In 2013, Dellacqua was in the final of three other Grand Slam tournaments with her compatriot Ashleigh Barty . In Melbourne they lost to Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci , at Wimbledon to the pairing Hsieh Su-wei and Peng Shuai and at the US Open to the duo Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká . In 2014, Dellacqua reached the round of 16 singles at the Australian Open for the second time since 2008; at the US Open , she made it to the round of 16 for the first time.

She ended her tennis career on April 10, 2018.
