The third largest number of immigrants were born in the Philippines .
history
Rockhampton was founded in 1855. The rocks in the river gave the name Rockhampton. Rockhampton received city rights in 1902. Many of the historic buildings in the city are now listed as monuments by The National Trust and the Heritage Commission . The listing of Quay Street as a "historic street view" is unique in Australia.
Flood 2011
The relatively low location on the river bank led to floods at the end of 2010 / beginning of 2011 that flooded almost the entire city area. For a few days the city could only be reached by helicopter because all the highways were flooded and the airfield was also affected. On January 14, it was announced that there were numerous fatalities and people missing in Queensland that they will probably no longer be found because the stretch of the river is more than 200 kilometers long and extends over huge floodplains. During the floods in Queensland in 2010/2011 , an area the size of Germany and France combined was covered.
economy
The city's economy is dominated by cattle breeding and therefore bears the title of the beef capital of Queensland.
