Alma Moodie

Alma Moodie (born September 12, 1898 in Rockhampton , † March 7, 1943 in Frankfurt am Main ) was an Australian violinist.

Life

Alma Moodie received lessons from the Bohemian violinist Ludwig D'Hage (1863–1960) in her home country . She made her first public appearance at the end of 1904. From 1907 to 1910 she studied in Brussels with César Thomson and Oskar Back . In 1913 she appeared for the first time with Max Reger , who became one of her sponsors. From 1919 she was a student of Carl Flesch .

Moodie was friends with Rainer Maria Rilke and Ernst Krenek , and Hans Pfitzner dedicated his B minor violin concerto to her, which she premiered in 1924 under the direction of the composer. In 1926 she also played the world premiere of Georg Göhler's Violin Concerto No. 1 . In the 1930s she appeared in a duo with Eduard Erdmann , which was expanded in 1939 by the cellist Karl Maria Schwamberger . From 1937 she led a master class at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt.

In 1943 the composer Karl Höller dedicated a violin sonata to the memory of Alma Moodie.
