Coordinates: 23 ° 22 ′  S , 150 ° 30 ′  E The Rockhampton Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 6570 km² and has about 80,000 inhabitants.

The region is located in the southeast of the state about 430 km west of the capital Brisbane .

The largest city and the administrative seat of the LGA is Rockhampton with around 61,000 inhabitants. history

Today's Rockhampton Region was created in 2008 from the City of Rockhampton and the three Shires Fitzroy, Livingstone and Mount Morgan. On January 1, 2014, the merger was partially reversed and Livingstone Shire became an independent LGA again.

administration

The Rockhampton Regional Council has eleven members. Ten Councilors are elected by the residents of the ten divisions (constituencies). The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the region.
