Coordinates: 20 ° 43 ′ S , 143 ° 8 ′ E The Shire of Richmond is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 26,581 km² and has about 790 inhabitants.
geography
The Shire is located in the center of the state about 1,250 km northwest of the capital Brisbane .
The administrative seat of the LGA is Richmond with about 550 inhabitants. Other localities are Albion, Burleigh, Cambridge, Carrar, Maxwelton and Woolgar.
history
The area was explored around 1862 and slowly settled in the following years. Richmond was particularly important as a stopover to the gold fields in the north. From 1910 to 1954, the administrative area was called Wyangarie Shire and then received its current name.
administration
The Richmond Shire Council has five members. The Mayor and four other Councilors are elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
