Nicole Pratt (born March 5, 1973 in Mackay , Queensland ) is a former Australian tennis player .

Career

She was taught to play tennis by her father, George, who, in turn, was one of the top juniors. After attending school, she received a tennis scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra . At the age of 18 she became a professional.

In January 2001 she was number 1 in Australian women's tennis. She reached the third round of the Australian Open in 2004 and won the Indian Open .

In August 2006, Pratt reached her first quarterfinals on the WTA Tour at the Canada Masters in Toronto at the age of 33 . Shortly thereafter, she managed to return to the top 100 of the WTA world rankings . In 2007 she took part in the Sydney Medibank International , where she moved into the second round with a win over Dinara Safina , in which she was defeated by Kim Clijsters in straight sets. At the Australian Open , she lost her first round match against Virginie Razzano .

In 2008 Nicole Pratt tearfully announced her retirement from professional tennis after her opening defeat against Nadja Petrowa at the Australian Open .

In May 2012 she made her comeback at an ITF tournament in Portugal; however, it was her last appearance on the ladies tour.
